Entertainment Lighting Programmer (Theater & Stage)

Role and Responsibilities

The Lighting Technician position will be responsible for designing, programming, repairing and operating all lighting and special effect elements for shows and events in a unique, theatre-style venue. Works with Director of Production and Events to coordinate projects, maintain overall product quality and follow all appropriate rules, regulations, and guidelines.  Responsibilities and requirements include:

  • Must have a clear knowledge and understanding of computerized lighting consoles (Grand MA)
  • Develops thorough knowledge of all lighting equipment specific to venue to include static and moving lights
  • Oversees and coordinates the proper maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting of all show lighting and special effects equipment
  • Assists in technical operation for live shows and events, specifically operating the lighting console and special effect equipment
  • Inspects and maintains all lighting equipment and keeps records of inspection, repairs and modifications
  • Maintains lighting inventory to include parts, bulbs, tools, etc
  • Coordinates purchases of new or replacement equipment with the Tech Manager and Director of Production and Events
  • Coordinates system updates and equipment repairs in house or with product manufacturers
  • Assist with the creation of safe, respectful, and positive working environment at all times
  • Communicates with vendors in matters of maintenance and safety
  • Plays important role in development of cost-saving measures and technical improvements
  • Participates in change-outs of advertising displays (sky murals, clings, duratrans, bulkheads, etc)
  • Must have the ability to endure long periods of sitting and standing
  • Ability to work high above ground
  • Safely operates technical equipment to include scissor lift and straight boom lift; operate audio and automation procedures in the absence of production booth personnel
  • Experience in set design and construction a plus
  • Other duties as assigned by BESTAgency Corporate personnel and client

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates should possess the following:

  • Previous lighting experience:  minimum of 2 years in the entertainment industry as a lighting technician
  • Excellent self-motivation skills

  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Flexible schedule, minimum 24 hours; hours may be extended during peak seasons
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers, management, employees, clients, vendors and talent
  • Ability to maintain composure in a sometimes high stressed, fast paced environment.
  • Live/Stage Entertainment, Corporate Events or nightclub  background a plus
  • Knowledge of computer programs including MS Excel, Word, Google Apps, and the Internet.

Preferred Skills

Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Theater and Production emphasis in Lighting Design

This position may be Full-time or Part-time- DOE
